In case you’re a Harry Potter nerd and also you’ve been following the referendum on whether or not or no longer the United Kingdom will leave the ecu Union, you’ve likely noticed some similarities.
But wait, there’s more:
In the magical world, on June 24, 1995, Voldemort returned after murdering Cedric Diggory.
In the real world, on June 24, 2016, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union.
After 14 fictional years of waiting and months of planning, Voldemort returned to his ~corporeal form~ and full power.
And after months leading up to this referendum, promised to Britons during their last general election, a very real, not-fictional thing will happen: The U.K. will return to its ~pure~, non-EU form in the coming years.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who on Twitter has revealed she’s firmly in the Remain camp, tweeted today, “I don’t think I’ve ever wanted magic more.”
We’re not sure who Harry would be, so the metaphor isn’t ˜perfect˜, but it looks like the U.K. is in for a hell of a broom ride.
